Avec les Galaxy S20 Ultra et Note 20 Ultra, Samsung est encore parvenu a placé deux de ses smartphones parmi les meilleurs de l'année. Seulement voilà : aussi bons soient-ils, ces modèles font également partie des plus coûteux du moment, et la concurrence est rude. Google et OnePlus notamment proposent des appareils performants à des tarifs plus modérés. Comptez 629€ pour le Pixel 5 et 599€ pour le OnePlus 8T fraîchement annoncé. C'est pourquoi le géant coréen a déployé (encore) une itération de son S20, mais dans une version plus abordable cette fois-ci, le Samsung S20 FE (pour Fan Edition). Proposée à partir de 659€, elle embarque un triple capteur photo, un processeur puissant, une certification IP68 et même de la 5G (une option facturée 100€ supplémentaire).

Si on compare le Galaxy S20 FE aux autres modèles de la gamme, il se montre 90€ moins cher que le S20 affiché à 749€ sur le site du constructeur. Le S20+ est quant à lui affiché à 849€ et le S20 Ultra à 1259€. Mais malgré tout ces arguments valables, est-ce que ce nouveau Samsung Galaxy S20 FE a une raison d'attirer notre attention quand leGalaxy S20tombe quasiment au même prix pendant les (nombreux) événements shopping de l'année ?

Le juste prix ?

Le Samsung Galaxy S20 FE ne réinvente pas la roue, mais il n'est pas dénué d'intérêts pour autant. Pour commencer, c'est un smartphone polyvalent qui est affiché à un tarif plus doux que le Galaxy S20. Il reste tout de même plus cher qu'uniPhone SE 2020(489€), qu'un OnePlus Nord (599€) ou encore qu'un Pixel 5 (629€). Ces écarts de prix sont justifiés par une fiche technique plus complète par rapport à celles de ses concurrents. Le Samsung Galaxy S20 FE profite notamment d'un téléobjectif, d'une mémoire extensible et d'un processeur plus puissant que la moyenne.

Une nouvelle étoile dans la Galaxy

Faisons rapidement le tour du propriétaire. Le Samsung Galaxy FE est équipé d'un écran super AMOLED de 6,5 pouces (1080 x 2400 pixels) poinçonné. Il très lumineux et facile à lire même en plein soleil. Si sa définition est belle et bien inférieure à celle du Galaxy S20 standard (1440 x 3200 pixels), il est impossible de savoir à l'œil nu que l'une deux dalles possède davantage de pixels que l'autre. Néanmoins, vous pourrez facilement distinguer le Samsung Galaxy S20 FE du S20 classique, car l'écran du premier est plat alors que le second est incurvé.

Pour terminer, sachez que l'écran du Samsung Galaxy S20 FE possède un taux de rafraîchissement adaptatif de 120 Hz. La navigation dans les menus est donc extrêmement fluide, et jouer aux jeux vidéo est agréable.

Le modèle 5G est équipé d'un processeur Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, tandis que le modèle 4G dispose du même Exynos 990 que le Galaxy S20 Ultra et les Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. À en croire le tableau comparatif de CNET.com, les performances délivrées par ces deux puces haut de gamme sont assez similaires. Il n'y a donc pas de raison de se sentir lésé en optant pour la version la moins onéreuse, la version 4G.

Les amateurs de jeux vidéo seront ravis par la puissance du Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. Les jeux gourmands tels qu'Asphalt 9 tournent à merveille sans baisse de framerateset exploitent pleinement le taux de rafraichissement de l'écran. Encore mieux ; l'arrière du smartphone en plastique est bien moins brûlant par rapport à celui d'un Galaxy Note en verre.

Faire aussi bien en photo avec moins

Il a bien fallu que Samsung réduise les coûts de production de son smartphone quelque part, et la partie photo a trinqué. On retrouve à l'arrière du Samsung Galaxy S20 FE un triple capteur photo composé d'une caméra principale de 12 mégapixels, d'un téléobjectif de 12 mégapixels (avec zoom optique 3x) ainsi que d'un capteur ultra grand-angle de 8 mégapixels. C'est en deçà des specs des autres Galaxy haut de gamme. À titre de comparaison, le Galaxy S20 embarque un capteur grand-angle de 12 mégapixels, un ultra grand-angle de 12 mégapixels, un téléobjectif 3x de 64 mégapixels ainsi qu'un objectif ToF de 0,3 mégapixel.

Le S20 FE est également amputé de quelques fonctionnalités comme le "Space Zoom" 100x ou encore la possibilité de filmer en 8K (chose que l'on retrouve sur le S20 Ultra). Il est assez peu probable que ces éléments vous manquent au quotidien au point de justifier l'achat d'un modèle coûtant plusieurs centaines d'euros supplémentaires, mais c'est tout de même à souligner.

Les prises de vue du Galaxy S20 FE sont percutantes. Le capteur principal offre un bon équilibre d'exposition entre le ciel clair et le premier plan qui est assombri. Le HDR automatisé doit y jouer pour quelque chose.

Avec l'aide du zoom optique 3x, on parvient à se rapprocher des bâtiments sans perdre trop en qualité d'image. Bien qu'il y ai davantage de couleurs, le rendu reste toujours équilibré et vivant. On décèle toutefois un effet bleuté qui bave en haut à gauche dans le building en construction.

Une apparence plutôt discrète

La coque arrière du Samsung Galaxy S20 FE est en plastique. Pas top pour un smartphone haut de gamme, mais son revêtement givré lui offre tout de même un aspect sympathique. Il a au moins l'avantage d'être moins sensible aux traces que le verre. Vous aurez le choix entre 6 coloris : Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Red, Cloud White et Cloud Orange. Avec un écran Gorilla Glass 5 et des bordures en aluminium, on peut affirmer que le smartphone dégage une certaine robustesse et qu'il est agréable à manipuler. On note aussi l'absence de prise jack, mais le smartphone se rattrape grâce à sa certification IP68.

Une autonomie qui met à l'aise

Avec 4500 mAh, l'accumulateur du S20 FE possède 500 mAh de plus que celui du S20 Standard. Le smartphone a donc de quoi tenir plus d'une journée en utilisation soutenue, voire deux jours en étant modéré. Après une heure de streaming vidéo sur YouTuve à pleine luminosité, la batterie n'avait perdu que 7% de sa charge, ce qui est très bien.

Il vous faudra près de 2 heures pour faire le plein d'énergie avec le chargeur filaire, mais sachez qu'il est également compatible avec la recharge rapide 25 watts.

Le Samsung Galaxy S20 FE est un très bon modèle auquel on ne peut pas reprocher grand-chose : l'écran Super AMOLED est superbe, la partie photo est plus que correcte et l'autonomie assure une grande autonomie. Cependant, le S20 Standard tombe souvent pendant les événements shoppings au même prix que le S20 FE (4G). À l'heure où ces lignes sont rédigées, ce n'est donc pas un choix pertinent à nos yeux. La version 5G coûte quant à elle 759€ quand le S20 5G est à 1009€, mais si c'est cette fonctionnalité vous intéresse, le Pixel 5 est plus abordable.

Les prix sont amenés à évoluer dans le temps, et il ne serait pas étonnant de voir le prix du S20 FE chuter dans les semaines à venir. Aujourd'hui, nous vous conseillons plutôt d'opter pour un S20 Standard en promo ou d'attendre une éventuelle baisse de prix.
